Freedom is one of the most widely grown red roses in the international cut-flower trade, developed by German breeder Rosen Tantau and known industry-wide for its excellent behavior during long-distance transport — a critical factor for any rose making the journey from Colombia to buyers in Europe and North America.
At Flores el Progreso, Freedom is cultivated on our farm in Nemocón, Cundinamarca, at the altitude conditions that give Colombian roses their characteristic strong stems and vivid color saturation. We offer Freedom across an unusually wide stem length range — from 40cm to 120cm — giving buyers flexibility to order exactly the grade their market demands, from compact bouquet stems to premium long-stem presentation roses.
The variety’s true red, cup-shaped bloom and symmetrical form have made it a long-standing favorite for romantic and ceremonial arrangements. It remains a reliable anchor in our export program precisely because demand for a consistent, high-quality red never really goes out of season.
Before it was named Freedom, this variety was originally trialed and released under the name “Bloody Mary.” Sales were unremarkable until Rosen Tantau renamed it Freedom — after which it went on to become one of the best-selling red roses in the world. Sometimes a name really does change everything.
Freedom's deep red color and reliable year-round availability make it one of the most requested varieties during peak romantic-holiday demand.
A dependable, high-volume choice for one of the flower industry's biggest demand periods worldwide.
Works equally well as a standalone red statement or paired with cream tones like Vendela or Mondial.
